Welcome y Bienvenido

Welcome to our blog! We will be using this space to write and post pictures and videos about our upcoming time in Nicaragua. (Español sigue abajo.)

To introduce ourselves, Laura Jean is an ordained Disciples of Christ minister and Tim is a physicist with a background in environmental activism. We have a 2-year old daughter named Quinn, and all three of us will be serving in Nicaragua with Global Ministries, the international arm of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the United Church of Christ.

Our local partner in Nicaragua is La Misión Cristiana and we will be working with them on a number of interesting projects. Stay tuned for more!

Our goal is to write this blog in both Spanish and English, but since we are still learning Spanish we will no doubt make a lot of mistakes. If you speak Spanish, please feel free to correct our writing in the comments.

  3. Hello Laura Jean, Tim, and Quinn,
My name is Dave Long-Higgins and I am a UCC pastor who chairs the Nicaragua Taskforce of the Central Southeast Ohio Association, in the Ohio Conference. We have an ongoing partnership with Iglesia Mision Cristiana that was established four years ago. This summer we had two different groups travel to Nicaragua for pilgrimages and were sorry that we just missed you. We look forward to connecting with you and are excited about how your presence might help strengthen our connections. As you have the time, I would love to share more via email. My email is davelonghiggins@earthlink.net. Blessings to all three of you as you begin this exciting chapter of ministry and life. -Dave L-H

  5. Dear Laura Jean,
I just read that article you wrote about technology. What a FANTASTIC piece and even a great metaphor at the end regarding communication and mission! Right On!!!
Blessings to you all as you begin this new step in your journey. Remember me too as you reach out to share your joys and frustrations. While I haven't been exactly where you are... indeed the joys and frustrations of serving as a missionary are all too familiar and I hope to hear from you as much as possible so that I can be supportive (and share with others the good works you are and will be doing).
Que la paz de nuestro Dios este con ustedes por siempre. Tu hermana en la obra, Laura Blanco, Pewaukee, Wisconsin.

  8. Dear Laura Jean and Tim,

It is great to learn of your safe arrival in Managua. I am the New York Conference UCC staff person that relates to our Conference Global Church Commission. Through this Commission we seek to live out our Global Church partnership with Mision Cristiana, re-established in 2007.

It has been difficult for us to keep in contact with the leadership of Mision Christiana of late. Perhaps, we could establish some greater contact through you. In any case we have valued the contacts that we have had with Rev. Pilar and before her Rev. Raul.

Blessings to you in your ministry on our behalf,

    Rick Cowles

  9. Dear Laura Jean and Tim,

First of all, thank you for the work you are doing! I am working on a project on the impact of short-term mission trips, and particularly trying to understand how we increase their positive impact, on both the participants and those with whom they work. Would you be willing to share your insights and experiences? If you are interested, please e-mail me at lndmarroquin@gmail.com. Thank you!
